Sound Galleries Monaco

As the title clearly indicates, Sound Galleries are based in Monaco. A tiny principality on the Mediterranean coast, Monaco shares its borders with France, being situated about 10km east of Nice. Monaco is a magical place of course, famous for F1 racing, the Monte Carlo casinos, and playground of the rich and famous. The photograph below looks out over 'The Rock', the oldest quarter in Monaco and home of the famous Oceanic Museum of Monaco - the picture gives you a great feel for the place. And because Monaco is so small, Sound Galleries are not very far away from where this photograph was taken, approximately 3 blocks to the left of this viewpoint.

The proprietor of Sound Galleries is Geoffrey Armstrong - and yes you are right, that's not a very French name - Geoff is a Brit. The business was set up in 2005, with great facilities and a fascinating range of products (including Vertex AQ of course).

Geoff has a very clear vision for the service he provides - quite simply its about recreating a performance in your home that's so realistic, its as if it were being performed live in front of you by the musicians. But the way this service is delivered is very interesting. You see, Geoff caters for both the hi-fi enthusiast who wants to know all the details of the brands that are stocked, the choices and how best to build a system, and the music enthusiast who just needs a great sound, but wants to rely on his dealer to specify the best system for his requirements - without going into too much detail.

The second scenario, the one of the customer relying on the dealer, takes trust of course. And this is where Sound Galleries win in our view, because even if the customer does not witness a great deal of it, we know that Geoff's knowledge of system building is up with the best. Thats exactly why he uses Vertex AQ equipment - this gives him all the benefits of the Vertex Systematic Approach to ensure that a system is really going to sing for the customer.

This is a quote from Geoff which is an excellent way of putting it:

"Although systems which can get you close to the sound of live music tend to be relatively expensive, even our most modestly priced systems will recreate the essential elements of music making, and can stand comparison to live music. At the same time it is possible to spend vast sums on High-End Audio equipment and not get anywhere near that goal. The key is in getting the recipe right."

Geoff uses a lot of Vertex AQ equipment in his stylish showrooms. And in the photograph below you can see an Avantgarde Duo loudspeaker being fed by a Vertex AQ Moncayo speaker lead in one of the lounges at Sound Galleries.

Geoff's knowledge of Vertex AQ is extensive. He came to the UK in 2006 for a day's training with Vertex, and we now have annual meetings at the Munich hi-fi show for product updates. On the Sound Galleries website, there is a detailed writeup about the benefits of Vertex AQ products from Geoff's point of view. He describes the sort of problems that systems can suffer from with noise and distortion, and how the Vertex equipment really reduces these problems and opens up the system to far higher levels of transparency and musical expressiveness.
